The Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington has just opened an exhibit on webcomics. Called Morning Serial: Webcomics Come to the Table, the exhibit features pieces from Evan Dahm (Riceboy), Aaron Diaz (Dresden Codak), Erika Moen (Bucko), Daniel Merlin Goodbrey, Emily Ivie (The Locked Maze), Dylan Meconis (Family Man), Sutu, and Spike Trotman (Templar, Arizona). It’s being supplemented by a website (naturally). There is also a panel presentation on March 29th.
Sarra Scherb, the Masters candidate who organized the exhibit, is making the argument that webcomics are a continuation of the 60’s underground of comics and the 90’s ‘zine culture. (One could argue the Wild West of webcomics is a direct parallel to the infancy of comics itself as a medium, but we’ll save that for another day.)
